SOUTH ANTHONY SPEEDWAY
This track was built as drivers had a problem with the areas current track at the time, Fort Wayne Speedway. Despite the track being popular, the owner preferred his horses and would prioritise them over the car racing.
It was built on farmland and opened the first season as dirt track but after that year, they decided to pave the track and extend it to be a little bigger.
All the big name drivers came out to drive and they scheduled racing on two nights per week, Tuesday’s and Saturdays.
Racing was originally stock car racing and had some midgets mixed in. The it became Modifieds and into super modifieds.
Unfortunately the track didn’t last long and this track along with Fort Wayne Speedway closed the same year as the land got to valuable.
A lot of the bleachers etc from this track was taken to Avilla Speedway as it was getting built.
