It's #waybackwednesday! ✈️ This image is from the Harter Postcard Collection in the Allen County Public Library Digital Collections at the Allen County Public Libraryand shows the TWA and Chicago & Southern Terminals at Baer Field in Fort Wayne. These were the first two commercial airlines to serve the area at the location that is now known as Smith Field. C&S was merged with Delta Air Lines in 1953 and TWA ceased flights from Baer Field in 1963.

Thanks to our newest partner, the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum, the history of Baer Field and its war time works told through the pages of the base newspaper "The Beacon" will be shared digitally with the public. From 1942 to 1947, the Beacon was published weekly on base containing war news, local troop events, supportive Fort Wayne businesses and organizations and more. Stay tuned for more details to come.
