Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana

Mayor Sharon Tucker

2024, April 18 - Who is electing Fort Wayne's new mayor anyway? Kara Hackett, April 18, 2024, 89.1 WBOI Northeast Indiana Public Radio. In 1972, Indiana voters approved a constitutional amendment, allowing the General Assembly to set the method for filling office vacancies, which led to caucuses (like Fort Wayne's), where precinct chairs choose successors to fill vacant offices within 30 days. Niki Kelly: Time to reconsider how state handles early legislative departures., September 29, 2023, Indiana Capital Chronicle. Indiana’s original Constitution gave the governor the ability to call for a special election to fill state legislative vacancies. Then in 1972, Hoosier voters approved a constitutional amendment [ The Indiana Filling Vacancies in the General Assembly, Amendment 5 ] that allowed the General Assembly to set the method for filling vacancies. And that ultimately led to the caucuses, in which precinct members from a district choose a successor to fill an unexpired term within 30 days.

While many people know of Sharon Tucker, fewer people know about Sharon Tucker. The community deserves to know more about who is serving their needs from the office of Mayor in the second largest city in Indiana. The following is not an endorsement or a critique of what will happen over the next three years in office. It is simply an introduction from those who know her, work with her, compete with her and serve with her so everyone else can effectively do the same moving forward. We’re all in this together.
