We are featuring another neighborhood grocery in this week’s Throwback Thursday post. This Delaware Avenue building harkens back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when merchants lived upstairs from their businesses. The George & Marie Geerkin Grocery and house is a great example of this. This gable front building has large first floor display windows with a recessed front door that has egg & dart patterned molding around the glass. This building has retained enough of its architectural integrity that tells of its past use. Currently Resnick’s Store Mannequins and The Confetti Post occupy the building. The bay window, historic door and front porch are the outstanding features of the house. Mr. Ransom was the secretary and treasurer of the Fort Wayne Mercantile Accident Association. When Mrs. Jennie Ransom died in 1913, her funeral was held at the house. In 1916, Hannah Ransom hosted a Women’s Christian Temperance Union meeting in the house.
