Archangel (Montesequah) Godfroy, born in 1835 was the daughter of LaBlonde and granddaughter of Miami Civil Chief Jean Baptiste de Richardville. In 1844, she married James Godfroy, born in 1810 near Peru, Indiana, just two years before the removal of the Miami Tribe from Indiana. The Godfroy and Richardville families, along with several others were allowed to stay in Indiana because of a resolution passed by Congress in 1850 exempting Miami and their descendants who held treaty reserves from removal. Around 1850, Archangel and James inherited the home of her grandfather, living there until their deaths. Archangel passed away in March of 1885, followed by her husband James in 1894. These tintypes of Archangel and James Godfroy were created in 1880 and were found in August of 2016 in a relative’s attic near Arcola, IN and donated to the Historical Society. #sociallyhistory
