Battalion Chief Eric J. Balliet Memorial Parkway Dedication took place this afternoon, with family, friends, firefighters, police officers and local officials gathering to honor the fallen hero.

Eric was a tremendous asset to our community and had an infectious energy that inspired those around him. We were blessed to have him serve with our department as a Sheriff Reserve Officer, and we are incredibly proud to have been in attendance today for this well-deserved dedication.

Thank you to the Balliet family for sharing this part of Eric with us.

National Police Woman's Day

Today, as we celebrate National Police Woman's Day, we'd like to take a minute and recognize the women of our department who have made it their mission to protect and serve our community:

Lt. M. Halsey

Cpl. I. Herriott

Officer A. Spahiev

Officer B. Leininger

Officer A. McHenry

Officer K. Lewis

Officer L. Squadrito

Officer M. Linnemeier

Reserve Officer S. McHenry

This day honors the women who have paved the way for future generations of women in law enforcement. Although the law enforcement field is historically a male-based profession, these women have more than proven their worth and capabilities.

Sergeant Don Osborn C348 [ See August 2024 ]

25 years. 25 very long, empty years. Thatโ€™s how long Sergeant Dan Osbornโ€™s family has had to live with no answers, no accountability. But this week, because of the diligent, tired-less work of the Fort Wayne Police Department detectives, this cold case could be receiving the accountability and closure that is beyond overdue.

If you are unfamiliar with this senseless homicide, you can find the story on any of the local news outlets. We would prefer to remember this larger-than-life, darn good human, for his contagious smile and personalityโ€ฆa man dedicated to his community. He was the type of man who made the world a little bit better just by being present. Sergeant Osborn was taken from his wife and daughters at the young age of 47 by a senseless act. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and co-workers of Sergeant Osborn. We are praying for accountability and closure for the family.

We cannot express our gratitude and appreciation to all the Fort Wayne Police Department detectives involved with bringing the suspect to court. Now itโ€™s up to due process.

Sergeant Edenfield was working a security detail at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum when he observed the assault. After chasing the subject, Sergeant Edenfield was able to apprehend the man but struggled briefly with him before handcuffing the man. He then collapsed while waiting for a patrol car to transport the man.

Sergeant Edenfield was transported to a local hospital where he died undergoing surgery. He had served with the Allen County Sheriff's Department for 26 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.
