June 1, 1980, President Jimmy Carter came to FTW to see Vernon Jordan at the Parkview Hospital. At the conclusion of his visit, he would shake hands with the uniform police and thank them for their protective services.

There were a group of us that weren’t in uniform and we were told to stand aside as some of the group were scruffy looking and it wouldn’t look cool. Guess what, he came over and shook our hands, too. He shook my hand as I said “hello Mr President.” I had my trusty Cannon AE-1 to record the event.

    RIP Jimmy Carter.

President Jimmy Carter was not only a great president, humanitarian, but also a compassionated leader. When Vernron Jordan, National Urban League Executive Director was shot in Fort Wayne after speaking at the Fort Wayne Urban League's Annual Fundraiser by Earl Franklin, a White Supremacist, Presient Carter flew to Fort Wayne to see about a fellow Georgian inspite of Vernon's speech criticizing Carter's commitment to the Black community. Thank God for Dr. Towels and his team that saved Vernon's life. The power of community love and prayer.

    R.I.P. Dr. Jimmy Carter.
