Spanish-American War, 28th Battery , Allen Co., Indiana

Record of Indiana Volunteers-Spanish-American War 1898-1899

Indiana was the first state to have its entire quota mustered. This war demonstrated that the National Guard is the bulwark of our liberties and can be improved and made more effective. Indiana treated her soldiers well, paid them before they left the state and furnished them with the best of equipment. The women formed an organization called the "Indiana Soldiers'Aid Society" and provided food, clothing and anything that the soldiers needed; also support to loved ones left behind. The Vice-President for the 28th Battery Aid Society was Mrs. Mahurin.

This Battery was organized as a Gatling Gun Squad October 26, 1886, as a Battery July 1, 1887
