  • 23 Jan 1878 Sheriff Munson left on last Friday for Michigan City with John Noster and James Devine who will spend a year each in the northern penitentiary. (FWWS)

  • 13 Feb 1878 James Wilson left today for the northern penitentiary for one year for petit larceny. (FWWS)

  • 06 Mar 1878 Tom Burke will get out of the pen this week. (FWWS)

  • 17 Apr 1878 Jeff Myers was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary. John Hutman, robbery and grand larceny and James Alwine, robbery, to the northern penitentiary for one year each. (FWWS)

  • 08 May 1878 No change of venue in the Droegemeyer case. (FWWS)
  • 15 May 1878 Harris Greenbaugh, two years in the penitentiary for grand larceny and Jas. Q. Anderson, one year for petit larceny, one year in the penitentiary. (FWWS)

    Jonathan Hand sentenced to three years in the penitentiary for burglary.

  • 24 Jul 1878 Griest was taken to the northern penitentiary Friday by Chief of Police. (FWWS)

  • 07 Aug 1878 Henry Waldbaum, having completed a two-year sentence in the penitentiary for obtaining money under false pretenses, is again about the streets. (FWWS)

  • 23 Oct 1878 "California Jack" has been removed to the penitentiary.
    It is rumored that the Droegemeyer bondsman will shortly make offers of a compromise. (FWWS)

  • 27 Nov 1878 James J. Bailey of Huntertown, convicted of grand larceny at Terre Haute, was sentenced to one year in the penitentiary. (FWWS)
