  • 6 Jan 1893 Irene Hall brings suit in the superior court to recover $500 from her divorced husband, James B. Williams, for support and maintenance of their two children.
  • 10 Jan 1893 Tomorrow at Bluffton, the divorce case of ex-councilman, Henry P. Vordermark vs. his wife, Millie Vordermark, will be tried.
  • 12 Jan 1893 Ida Treese was granted a divorce from Frank Treese.
  • 13 Jan 1893 Ida Graham has sued Fred V. Graham for a divorce.
  • 13 Jan 1893 John Zent has brought suit in the superior court for a divorce from Agatha Zent.

  • 24 Jan 1893 In the circuit court the case of Kegg vs. Kegg application for divorce and suit to set aside conveyance is on trial. The case has been in the courts for years and it may be many more years before the settlement is reached.
  • 25 Jan 1893 The Kaag divorce case will occupy the attention of the circuit court for several days.
  • 25 Jan 1893 Joseph Sauder sues for a decree of divorce from Anna Souder. Abandonment is charged.
  • 30 Jan 1893 The Kagg divorce case is on trial in the circuit court.

  • 4 Feb 1893 The Kegg divorce case which has been on trial in the circuit court for some time was decided this morning. The plaintiff, Nancy E. Kegg, was granted a divorce from her husband, Emanuel S. Kegg and allowed her $1000 alimony.
  • 6 Feb 1893 Jennie Haines was divorced from Morris M. Haines and given $500 alimony.
  • 6 Feb 1893 Mrs. Yoast was given a divorce from her husband.
  • 6 Feb 1893 Elizabeth Bailey brings suit for support against August Bailey. A divorce suit may follow.
  • 7 Feb 1893 The divorce case of Ira Sauder against Anna Souder was called up in the circuit court this afternoon and the plaintiff granted a divorce by paying the defendant an alimony of $2500. The parties reside in Springfield Township.
  • 8 Feb 1893 Edgar A. French has entered suit for divorce from his wife, Helen O. French. The complaint was not on file but the charges are said to be quite racy.
  • 13 Feb 1893 Gertrude Druhot was granted a divorce from Charles Druhot. Drunkenness and abandonment are charged and Mrs. Druhot is given the custody of their child.
  • 15 Feb 1893 The divorce case of A. L. Dodane against Emma Dodane has been dismissed at defendants cost.
  • 17 Feb 1893 Isaac Seisinger was given a divorce in the circuit court this morning from Barbara Seisinger. The testimony showed that his wife was cruel and had attacked him with an ax.
  • 20 Feb 1893 It is reported that Mrs. Henry Stoll has withdrawn the divorce proceedings against her husband, Officer Stoll, of the police force.

  • 1 Mar 1893 Edgeworth Carroll has brought suit in the circuit court against Sarah Carroll for divorce.
  • 3 Mar 1893 Mrs. George Astry of Toledo, called at the police headquarters yesterday and complained that her husband, who lives at Maysville, was keeping her child from her. The couple have been living apart, the wife having brought divorce proceedings.
  • 7 Mar 1893 Katy Buffink brings suit in the circuit court against Charles Buffink for divorce and the custody of their child.
  • 7 Mar 1893 Barbara Neitert was yesterday granted a divorce from Herman Neitert. She was also granted the custody of their only child, Lillie.
  • 7 Mar 1893 The case of Sophia Heuer vs. Martin Heuer for divorced was dismissed.
  • 8 Mar 1893 The divorce case of Suder vs. Suder will be tried in the superior court on March 16th.
  • 11 Mar 1893 Mary E. Lake sues Louis Luke in the circuit court for a divorce.
  • 11 Mar 1893 In the case of Emma Arnold against Edward P. Arnold for wife desertion and failure to support, Judge O'Rourke found for the defendant.
  • 11 Mar 1893 Ella Beckman filed an affidavit against her husband, Wolford Beckman, charging him with having assaulted and cruelly beat her, etc….
  • 13 Mar 1893 The divorce case of Souder vs. Souder has been decided. The couple live in Cedar Creek Township, each is past fifty years of age and they have grown children. Mr. Joseph Souder filed the complaint alleging abandonment and Mrs. Souder filed a cross-complaint. After hearing testimony the court granted Mrs. Souder a divorce and $2700 alimony.
  • 15 Mar 1893 Selina R. Schlenker brings suit in the superior court for a divorce from Andrew W. Schlenker.
  • 24 Mar 1893 In the circuit court Lillie Jackson has brought suit for divorce from Frank A. Jackson. Cruelty and inhuman treatment are charged. The couple reside in Marion Township. She also asks to assume her maiden name.
  • 25 Mar 1893 Lillie Jackson sues for a divorce from Frank A. Jackson.
  • 25 Mar 1893 Julius Lehman brings suit in the circuit court against Ellen Lehman for divorce alleging cruelty.
  • 31 Mar 1893 Angelia Skinner begins suit in the circuit court for a divorce from her husband, John Skinner. The petition states that they were married on the 11 Jan 1888 and that three years ago he abandoned her, since which time he has failed to support her and the one child born to them.

  • 5 Apr 1893 William Blakesley abusing his wife. He says he will not live with her anymore and a divorce suit will probably be the result.
  • 10 Apr 1893 Mary E. Buskirk brings suit in the circuit court asking for a divorce from her husband, Daniel C. Buskirk, to whom she was married in 1881. She alleges cruel and inhuman treatment. They have one child which the wife asks to be placed in her care.
  • 11 Apr 1893 Fred W. Helling, Jr., the son of the well known ice dealer, brings suit in the circuit court for a divorce from his wife, Augusta Helling. The charges are sensational.
  • 12 Apr 1893 Gustave Tons commences suit in the circuit court for a divorce from his wife, Sophia Tons. The petition states that the parties were married four years ago and charges cruelty and neglect on the part of the wife.
  • 12 Apr 1893 In the superior court today a divorce was granted to Kattie Buffink from Chas. Buffink.
  • 12 Apr 1893 Thomas Williams was also given a divorce from Martha Williams.
  • 22 Apr 1893 In the superior court Julia E. Noble commences proceedings for divorce from her husband, John A. Noble. She alleges that they were married in 1874, have four children, and that for the last five years the defendant has done but very little for the support of the family. During the last two years he has not provided for them at all.
  • 24 Apr 1893 The divorce case of Julia E. Noble against John A. Noble was called up in the superior court this morning and the judge granted the plaintiff a divorce from the defendant.
  • 24 Apr 1893 In the circuit court, Edgeworth Carroll was given a divorce from Sarah Carroll.
  • 27 Apr 1893 The legal troubles of Milton Webber and his wife are being heard in the circuit court this afternoon. One of the cases is the suit brought by his wife for divorce.
  • 29 Apr 1893 Elizabeth Ramsey has brought suit in the superior court for a divorce from Henry Ramsey. Cruel and inhuman conduct on the part of the defendant is alleged in the petition as reasons why a divorce should be granted.

  • 5 May 1893 Josephine Frost sues James J. Frost for divorce.
  • 8 May 1893 Anna Lake has been given a divorce in the circuit court from William Lake.
  • 8 May 1893 Anna A. Schnelker sues John B. Schnelker for a divorce.
  • 10 May 1893 A suit for divorce and alimony has been commenced by Catherine Certia against Jacob B. Certia. The complaint alleges cruel treatment. The amount of money asked is $10,000.
  • 15 May 1893 William Holland vs Elizabeth Holland (long story).
  • 15 May 1893 Ida M. Kiddy vs. James H. Kiddy.
  • 20 May 1893 In circuit court, Ida Graham has been granted a divorce from Fred Graham.
  • 24 May 1893 Hattie McLetchie has begun suit in the superior court against John McLetchie asking that she may be divorced from him. The situation was withdrawn from the files hence the grounds upon which the divorce is asked are kept from newspaper reporters.

  • 7 Jun 1893 Flora Leen asks for a divorce from her husband, Michael Leen.
  • 7 Jun 1893 Jennie Dean sues for a divorce from John C. Dean.
  • 7 Jun 1893 Louisa J. Ryan sues for a divorce from Paul P. Ryan.
  • 19 Jun 1893 Marvella L. Gloyd sues for a divorce from Louis L. Gloyd, a wealthy farmer. She asks $2000 alimony. Her attorneys secured a restraining order to defendant from drawing his money from the banks.
  • 24 Jun 1893 In the case of Roller vs. Roller, the plaintiff, Fred Roller, has been granted a divorce.

  • 3 Jul 1893 A startling tragedy occurred on East DeWald Street Saturday evening about 6:30 which came near causing John W. Eiler, a well-known machinist, the loss of both eyes. In a mad fit of jealousy his young wife dashed a cap full of nitric acid into his face burning it in a fearful manner. Eiler is about 27 years of age. Mrs. Eiler's home was at Richmond, Ind. where the couple was married a little over a year ago. Eiler will this evening take his wife to her home in Richmond and will probably institute divorce proceedings in a few days.
  • 11 Jul 1893 William Holland, the well-known baseball player, was granted a divorce in the superior court this morning from Elizabeth Holland, his wife. In the testimony, the plaintiff proved that they were married in New Jersey where his wife afterwards deserted him and for two years they haven't been living together.
  • 13 Jul 1893 Rosalie Merlot has commenced suit in the superior court for a divorce from her husband, Matthew Merlot, who she alleges has deserted her and fails to provide for her support. They were married in 1861.

  • 2 Aug 1893 A suit for divorce has been commenced by Herman Fromuth against Mary Fromuth.
  • 2 Aug 1893 James A. Wise has filed a complaint in the superior court asking for a divorce from his wife, Lucretia E. Wise. The complaint charges infidelity on the part of the wife. Three children were born to the couple and the plaintiff asks that they be placed in his custody.
  • 2 Aug 1893 Mrs. Farrand asks for a divorce from Richard S. Farrand and $1000 alimony.
  • 5 Aug 1893 In the circuit court this morning Wilmena Terrand was granted a divorce from Richard S. Terrand. The couple were only married recently and did not get along well together. She was 36 years of age and he was about 80 years old. Their difficulties have already been mentioned in the papers.

  • 21 Aug 1893 The divorce case of Marvella Gloyd against Louis L. Gloyd is on trial. The plaintiff wants alimony in the sum of $2000.
  • 21 Aug 1893 Mrs. Schemerhorn has applied for a divorce and Schemerhorn is a fugitive from justice.
  • 23 Aug 1893 Jacob Noel, a life prisoner in the prison north, has been pardoned by the governor. Seventeen years ago he was sentenced for the murder of Abraham Paulus. Noel made no defense at his trial. His wife has married without securing a divorce and he has since made a statement that she was intimate with Paulus at the time of the murder. At the trial he preferred a life sentence rather than expose her.
  • 29 Aug 1893 This morning, Justice France united in marriage John Bellamy and Margaret Bellamy. He married the same parties six years ago. After living together for a while they found they could not agree and were divorced in the courts. Recently they met, compromised their differences, fell in love again, and a remarriage was the result. Both parties live in this city.

  • 4 Sep 1893 A divorce was granted in the circuit court this morning to Josephine Frost from her husband, James S. Frost.
  • 4 Sep 1893 John K. Osenbaugh has begun suit in the circuit court asking that he may be divorced from his wife, Mary E. Osenbaugh, alleging adultery and neglect of duty. He says that they were married in this county on the 23 of June 1883 and although he has been a dutiful husband, she has on a number of occasions been untrue to him. He states in his petition that on November 9, 1892, she was arrested by the police with a male companion for prostitution.
  • 4 Sep 1893 Ada Stapleton has begun suit in the courts asking for a divorce from her husband, James Stapleton. The petition alleges abandonment as a cause for divorce.
  • 7 Sep 1893 In the superior court this morning Hattie McLetchie was granted a divorce from John W. McLetchie, the well-known traveling salesman, on the charge of cruelty. The parties were divorced once before about two years ago and were remarried last September. The wife was given alimony in the second divorce trial for $605 which the defendant is to pay in weekly installments.
  • 7 Sep 1893 Another divorce case was heard in the circuit court, Bertha Keyser being given a legal separation from her husband, William Keyser, on account of his abandonment and failure to provide.
  • 8 Sep 1893 In the circuit court James P. W. Boyd was granted a divorce from Jean A. Boyd.
  • 8 Sep 1893 Flora Leen was legally separated from Michael Leen.
  • 15 Sep 1893 Mattie J. Higley was granted a divorce from Edward Higley on the charge of abandonment and cruelty. She is given the custody of the two children and alimony at the rate of $8 a month for a period of five years.
  • 15 Sep 1893 Hiram Palmer, who sued his divorced wife and Mary E. Shutt for the possession of household goods, which his wife took from him five years ago, lost his case in the court.
  • 15 Sep 1893 Herman Fromuth, assistant civil engineer of the Pennsylvania road, who was accused of assault and battery, was acquitted yesterday. It is said his wife is addicted to liquor. A divorce is pending.
  • 18 Sep 1893 Samuel Burke was given a divorce from Laura Burke.
  • 19 Sep 1893 John K. Osenbaugh has been given a divorce from Mary E. Osenbaugh.
  • 20 Sep 1893 Maria A. Stewart sues for a divorce from Thomas Stewart.
  • 20 Sep 1893 The Fromuth divorce case is on trial in the superior court.
  • 21 Sep 1893 Herman Fromuth did not secure a divorce from Mary Fromuth, whom he married when she was a 17 year old lass. The case was heard in court yesterday and some 30 witnesses were heard. The court denied the husband's application for divorce and gave both parties a good lecture.
  • 22 Sep 1893 Mary C. Grabler brings suit in the circuit court against Charles Grabler for divorce alleging that he is a habitual drunkard and has abandoned her.
  • 23 Sep 1893 In the divorce case of Charles Miller vs. Christina Miller, in the superior court, the Judge has refused to grant the defendant $25 to prosecute the case.
  • 26 Sep 1893 Levi B. Larrimore has begun suit in the circuit court for a divorce from his wife, Alice Larrimore. Cruelty is alleged. Mr. Larrimore is a railroad engineer.
  • 27 Sep 1893 Mrs. Sophia Culver vs. Charles Culver.
  • 27 Sep 1893 Mary Gruhler was divorced from Charles Gruhler on her complaint of cruel treatment.
  • 29 Sep 1893 Sarah McGovern has filed for divorce from Charles J. McGovern in the circuit court.

  • 2 Oct 1893 In the circuit court this afternoon Amanda A. Price was given a divorce from her husband, Samuel B. Price, on the ground of abandonment.
  • 13 Oct 1893 Ida May Tripple has commenced proceedings for a divorce from her husband.
  • 19 Oct 1893 John Cohn was granted a divorce from Rosa Cohn.
  • 19 Oct 1893 The divorce case of Levi B. Larrimore against Alice Larrimore is on trial.
  • 21 Oct 1893 In the superior court this morning, Millie A. Gardner was given a divorce from her husband, George W. Gardner, on the grounds of abandonment and failure to provide. She is an actress and came from New Jersey. At Van Wert, Ohio, about three years ago, was married to Gardner, who was a sort of a worthless fellow and failed to provide for her support. She left him and came to this city and has been following the occupation of a seamstress. The court in the decree granting the divorce restored the plaintiff her maiden name, Millie K. Mergel.
  • 24 Oct 1893 In the superior court Melissa Collins was granted a divorce from Lindley D. Collins.
  • 26 Oct 1893 Lulu M. Baker sues Thomas J. Baker in the superior court for divorce and $1000 alimony.
  • 28 Oct 1893 Margret Shackelford against Wade M. Shackelford for divorce.
  • 30 Oct 1893 Lovely Brewer has brought suit in the circuit court for a divorce from her husband, William L. Brewer.

  • 15 Nov 1893 Henry Werch; a case of shocking brutality upon the part of the husband toward his wife was last night reported to the police. A divorce suit will probably follow.
  • 17 Nov 1893 William Maxwell sues Anna Maxwell for a divorce in the circuit court.
  • 18 Nov 1893 Edward Taylor has brought suit in the circuit court for a divorce from his wife, Mary R. Taylor.
  • 20 Nov 1893 Sovely (sic) Brewer was granted a divorce from her husband, Wm. L. Brewer, in the circuit court this morning.
  • 23 Nov 1893 Frederick Rippe, divorce from Mrs. Rippe.

  • 1 Dec 1893 The case of Milton N. Webber against Bridget Webber, to set aside a conveyance of a house and lot on Fulton Street valued at $7000 made to the latter during divorce proceedings, is on trial in the circuit court.
  • 9 Dec 1893 In the circuit court, Lena M. Goldthart was given a divorce from Howard H. Goldthart.
  • 11 Dec 1893 In the circuit court this morning Lena M. Goldthait was given a divorce from her husband, Howard Goldthait.
  • 11 Dec 1893 Anna Wertz has commenced suit in the superior court asking that she may be divorced from her husband, Henry Wertz, and given $1000 alimony. The petition alleges that the two were married on the 3rd of January 1874 and now have two grown children. During the last several years the plaintiff says that the defendant has become a habitual drunkard and fails to provide support for the family. She also says that he is guilty of abuse and gross neglect of duty and for that reason she has not lived with him since last October.
  • 11 Dec 1893 John W. Moore is asking that he be divorced from Ellen Moore, his wife, in the superior court. The petition was taken from the files and the reporters cannot mention the causes alleged.
  • 13 Dec 1893 George A. Woods sues in the circuit court for a divorce from Susanna Woods.
  • 13 Dec 1893 Mattie Robacker and Samuel Robacker were recently divorced in the courts. They have been licensed to wed.
  • 21 Dec 1893 Yesterday morning John Devaux was arrested for abusing his wife, Laura V. Devaux and shortly before the filing of the papers, she began suit in the circuit court for a divorce from him. When the criminal case was called in the justice court yesterday afternoon, Justice Wilkinson, after hearing the testimony, gave both parties a severe lecture, criticizing their foolish conduct and their quarrels and advised them to settle their difficulties and live together here after happily. They took his advice and went over to the court and withdrew their divorce suit.
  • 21 Dec 1893 Mary L. Wilhelm sues for a divorce from Henry Wilhelm, charging cruel treatment.
